Lego Creator - 6913 (Blue Roadster)

I have always been fascinated with Lego. I remember when I was a kid, I used to play with my Lego sets for hours. I recently acquired a few sets to start my collection of Lego toys. I will be concentrating more on the Creator series and maybe the City series (depending on my budget). As for now, I have 5 sets of Creator series. I will be blogging more about them later.
Here are some photos of my Lego Creator (6913). It is called the Blue Roadster. In the box, there are plans to make three different types of vehicle. I made the main vehicle, which was the Blue Roadster.

HMS Victory - Update for 30th April 2013

Sorry for the lack of update. Been quite busy with work and didn't have much time to spend building my HMS Victory. I have decided to build another launch for the HMS Victory. My first attempt didn't work out well. Decided to spend some time to make another one. I am quite happy with the outcome of my second launch. After completing the planking, I used some wood fillers to seal any noticeable gaps in the planking. I then painted it white as a base colour. I will be sanding it down later to get a smoother and even finish.

I have completed the lower gun deck installation as well. Next I would be building the middle gun deck. I have the parts already but still haven't unpacked it yet. Hope to get it done within the the next few days.

That is all for now. More updates coming soon. Stay tuned.

HMS Victory - Issue 14 (Victory's Launch Build)

I have began construction on the Victory's Launch. Part 1 of the launch is provided in issue 14 and part 2 will be provided in issue 17.  I didn't blog about issue 11 - 14 as those issues are just basically to build up the frames of the hull. Nothing much to blog about for issue 11 - 14.

I started work on the Victory's Launch recently and was quite excited do do the planking for the launch. I don't have a plank bender, so I did what one for the forumer in the Model-Space forum did in his build diary of HMS Endeavour Longboat. I soaked the planks in water an then placed them on the frames to get the shape.

I am faced with a problem now regarding the planking. Attached are some photos of the planking progress after placing two planks on each side. There is quite a huge gap. Guess the planks didn't really take the shape of the frame. I'm not sure if this can be rectified later on.

As a back up, I got another issue of the Victory's Launch. Just in case I screw up this planking.

Here are some photos of my Launch build so far. Haven't really completed the planking of the launch. Will keep you guys posted on the progress.

HMS Victory - Progress after 10 issues

So far, I have collected 10 issues of HMS Victory. Based on the 10 issues that I have worked on, a managed to learn many valuable lessons along the way. One of the most important thing that I learnt was model making need a lot of PATIENCE. There is no need to rush into building them. Instead of working on one issue in one sitting, I decided to work on them slowly. If the mood is not right, or the body doesn't feel like it, I would stop and continue on an another day. No point rushing when in the end I just get frustrated when things don't go right.
I also learnt that having the right tools helps a lot. Sharp blades works wonders instead of blunt blades, especially when cutting out the parts from the frame.  My painting skills has also improved, especially during painting of the small parts.
Model making is a time consuming hobby. Lots of patience needed, but safe to say, the end results are very very very satisfying.
Here are some photos of my build so far. I still need to work on the two units of 12 pounder guns. Plan to work on them in the near future.

HMS Victory - Issue 10

In issue 10, I will be working on 2 more ribs frames. Nothing fancy in this build. Very straightforward build.

More ribs frames coming in issue 11. Can't wait to get hold of issue 11 from the my local news stand. Stay tuned for more updates.

HMS Victory - Issue 9

To be honest, I couldn't wait to begin work on issue 9. The main reason being that the part to extend the internal keel to the stern of HMS Victory. With this part, I can finally see the the full skeleton  of the Victory hull. Least least it gives me some perspective of HMS Victory's size. Also with issue 9 is the support for the minimast.

The HMS Victory that I am building is slowing taking its form. In issue 10, I will be building me of the rib frames for the Victory.
