HMS Victory - Progress after 10 issues

So far, I have collected 10 issues of HMS Victory. Based on the 10 issues that I have worked on, a managed to learn many valuable lessons along the way. One of the most important thing that I learnt was model making need a lot of PATIENCE. There is no need to rush into building them. Instead of working on one issue in one sitting, I decided to work on them slowly. If the mood is not right, or the body doesn't feel like it, I would stop and continue on an another day. No point rushing when in the end I just get frustrated when things don't go right.
I also learnt that having the right tools helps a lot. Sharp blades works wonders instead of blunt blades, especially when cutting out the parts from the frame.  My painting skills has also improved, especially during painting of the small parts.
Model making is a time consuming hobby. Lots of patience needed, but safe to say, the end results are very very very satisfying.
Here are some photos of my build so far. I still need to work on the two units of 12 pounder guns. Plan to work on them in the near future.

HMS Victory - Issue 10

In issue 10, I will be working on 2 more ribs frames. Nothing fancy in this build. Very straightforward build.

More ribs frames coming in issue 11. Can't wait to get hold of issue 11 from the my local news stand. Stay tuned for more updates.

HMS Victory - Issue 9

To be honest, I couldn't wait to begin work on issue 9. The main reason being that the part to extend the internal keel to the stern of HMS Victory. With this part, I can finally see the the full skeleton  of the Victory hull. Least least it gives me some perspective of HMS Victory's size. Also with issue 9 is the support for the minimast.

The HMS Victory that I am building is slowing taking its form. In issue 10, I will be building me of the rib frames for the Victory.

HMS Victory - Issue 8

In issue 8, parts to build a sturdy stand are provided. Total of 6 precision pieces to build the stand were provided with this issue. Also with issue 8 are parts for another 12 pounder gun.

I haven't stated on the 12 pounder gun yet. Saving it for a later day when things get slow. So far I have 2 units of 12 pounder gun to build.

HMS Victory - Issue 7

In issue 7, 2 more ribs parts for the hull was provided. Total of 6 precision parts were provided with this issue.

In issue 8, parts to build a sturdy stand to support the model during construction will be provided. Also in issue 8, are parts for another 12 pounder gun.

HMS Victory - Issue 6

In this issue, I will continue to build up the rib frames for the hull. Also in this issue are parts to build a sanding block. Also provided are parts to build another 12 pounder gun. I decided to work on the frames and sanding block only. I will build the 12 pounder gun on a later date.

That is all for issue 6. In Issue 7, more rib sections will be provided to extend the forward part of the hull.

HMS Victory - Issue 4

In issue 4, I will complete the bow framing and continue the assembly of another of Victory's rib frame. I will also continue with the rigging of the first of two Victory Carronade. The bow framing and assembly of the rib frame is straight forward. I spent some time cutting out the parts from the frame. Once removed, I sanded down the cut joints with a 240 grade sandpaper to even it out.

Once done, its time to glue the parts together and leave it aside to let the glue dry.

Next came the carronade. As mentioned previously, I had a lot of difficulties with the carronade. I had problems in fixing the axis for the wheels. Somehow, the holes on the wheels and the holes on the brass frame. In the end, I decided to just use super glue to glue the wheels to the frame. I will be making cosmetic adjustments in the future to make it not look too obvious. I plan to do some research on the colour scheme for the carronade and paint it accordingly. Well, here are some photos of my miserable looking carronade.

That is all for issue 4. In issue 5, 6 precision cut ribs will be provided to further extend the forward part of the hull.
