HMS Victory - Issue 3

I have started with issue 3. In issue 3, I will be adding the central part of the keel to the forward part of the keel. I will also be adding two more bow formers. I will also start the assembly of the first of two Victory's carronade. Also in this issue, a free pin vice drill with 3 drills bits are given free. The drill bits measure 1.0mm, 0.7mm and 0.5mm.

The first thing that I did was to join the central keel with the forward keel. After doing so, I proceeded to add the two bow formers. Not too complicated and its quite straight forward construction. Once done, I placed some clamps to secure it further while waiting for the PVA glue to dry completely.

Next comes the carronade. To be honest, I am glad HMS Victory only has TWO carronade. It was a real pain to construct this carronade. I found the 12 pounder gun easier to build. The first problem I had was to get the parts properly aligned according to the measurements given. Then I faced some serious problems with the brass pivot. While attempting to insert the brass bar into the pivot, I found that the bar was slightly thicker than the hole. I filed it down a bit but in the process of inserting the bar, I accidentally broke the pivot. Lucky I was able to reconstruct it using super glue. However, the end result was not so nice. Next I had trouble in determining the location to drill the holes. The measurement given were quite small and I had difficulties in determining the exact location. Well, hopefully my second carronade will be much more better than my first attempt. I still haven't painted the carronade yet. Planning to paint it once I begin my second 12 pounder gun.

That is all for issue 3. In issue 4, 13 precision cut sections will be provided to complete the  bow frameworks and to continue building the hull. Also I will complete the rigging of the first carronade.

Comments and feedback appreciated.
